FROM THE GREATEST LEGENDS TO ITS INSIDER SCENTS,
GUERLAIN CREATIONS ARE THE FRUITS OF THE HOUSE’S PRICELESS HERITAGE:
ITS ”MADE IN FRANCE” SAVOIR-FAIRE.
Unlike any other in the world, this legacy has been passed on and ceaselessly enriched by successive generations of the House, forming a history that spans almost two centuries.
To celebrate this special heritage, Guerlain dedicates a series of unique video portraits to its artisans, uncovering the individual behind each craft.
MORE THAN EXPERTISE, AT GUERLAIN,
SAVOIR-FAIRE IS A STATE OF MIND
United by their rigorous eye for quality and all that is beautiful, they all follow the same calling, that is, to raise the standard of Guerlain luxury higher and ever higher.
True dream-makers, they embody the exceptional nature that defines the hallmark of the House.
DIDY
DAME DE TABLE
NOTHING COULD HAVE PREDICTED THAT DIDY WOULD TAKE UP THE RARE ARTISANAL TRADE OF THE DAME DE TABLE.
Currently, only six women are engaged in this practice at Guerlain.
From barbichage and baudruchage to wax sealing, the Guerlain Dames de Table bestow the creations of the House with “even greater allure”, says this faithful admirer of the fragrance Idylle, her eyes aglow.
From all the different bottles to the personalisation techniques –with their infinite combinations according to each client’s desires– and from brand-new creations to lively discussions with her cheerful team, Didy speaks of days punctuated by constant discovery.
PATRICK
HEAD OF FRAGRANCE OPERATORS
With twenty-seven years of Guerlain experience behind him, Patrick is an integral figure of the House. Among his responsibilities, he leads a team that plays a crucial role in fragrance manufacture, namely, weighing the concentrates.
Adhering to the perfumer’s formula “down to the nearest hundredth of a gram”, Patrick assembles the some thirty raw ingredients that make up the fragrance. Like a pastry chef preparing a recipe, he creates the absolutes, essences and other concentrates within a vat.
IN ORPHIN, FRANCE, PATRICK'S BRIGHT EYES AND WARM VOICE
ARE PART AND PARCEL OF THE LANDSCAPE.
Patrick feels privileged to be able to work with these precious, rare ingredients, which he “receives and rediffuses” all across the globe after transforming them into fragrances. “I have held in my hands the fragrances that people wear,” he says with wonder. But it is also the intimate links to our memories contained in these fragrant substances that enchant this particular artisan, whose mother, too, worked at Guerlain.
ROBERTO
MÉTÉORITES MAKER
While the “recipe” used to make these little multicoloured spheres remains a well-kept secret at Guerlain, the craftsperson’s patience is undoubtedly one of the most essential ingredients found therein, since long hours must be put in to make each batch. Indeed, Roberto is gifted with unwavering patience and tremendous rigour, but also with a certain gentleness. When he mentions the Météorites that he has hand-crafted for twenty-five years, Roberto’s eyes begin to twinkle.
ROBERTO AFFECTIONATELY REFERS TO MÉTÉORITES AS “GUERLAIN CAVIAR”.
Pink for a fresh complexion, yellow for correcting dullness, mauve for catching the light... Among all these different colours, Roberto feels content. “When I hold these pearls, I feel like an artist,” he enthuses.
Now holding the most experience in a small group of five artisans – the only individuals in the world who possess this savoir-faire– Roberto likes to remind us that “it is not the machine that makes the Météorites, but the human being”. Nothing can stand in for the artisan’s eye during the final step of selecting spheres of perfect size and roundness.
